Final field announced for the Charles Schwab Cup Championship
Five players have a chance to win season-ending
Charles Schwab Cup next week at Phoenix Country Club
PHOENIX – The field has been set for the Charles Schwab Cup Championship at Phoenix Country Club, where the top 36 players of the 2025 PGA TOUR Champions season will compete to win both the 36th annual tournament title and the season-long Charles Schwab Cup race.
Two-time Charles Schwab Cup Champion (2022, 2024) Steven Alker sits atop the standings following his win two weeks ago at the Simmons Bank Championship, which marked the 10th victory of his Champions Tour career. Alker, who also won the Cologuard Classic earlier this year, is looking to become just the second player in PGA TOUR Champions history to win three or more Schwab Cups, joining Bernhard Langer, who has lifted the trophy a record six times.
Miguel Ángel Jiménez sits at No. 2 in the standings in the midst of a 2025 campaign which has seen him notch victories at the Trophy Hassan II, Hoag Classic, Principal Charity Classic, and Kaulig Companies Championship – marking the third senior major title of his standout career. The 61-year-old has finished inside the top-5 of the Charles Schwab Cup standings three times in his career.
Stewart Cink, the only American player to enter the week inside the top five, sits at No. 3 in the standings with wins at the Insperity Invitational and The Ally Challenge, where he successfully defended his 2024 title. The 2009 Open Champion, who notched eight victories during his PGA TOUR career, will be making his second career appearance at Phoenix Country Club after finishing T6 in 2024.
World Golf Hall of Fame member Ernie Els enters the week at No. 4 in the standings as he looks to capture his first Charles Schwab Cup. Els, who entered the 2024 event at No. 1 in the standings, won the 2025 season-opening Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai before recording four runner-up finishes – including two of his last three starts entering the week in Phoenix (2nd/SAS Championship; T2/Dominion Energy Charity Classic).
Thomas Bjørn, No. 5 in the standings, notched the first win of his PGA TOUR Champions career at the American Family Insurance Championship (with partner Darren Clarke) before capturing victory No. 2 three months later at the Stifel Charity Classic. All players inside the top five have a mathematical chance of winning the Charles Schwab Cup.
The field will feature five members of the World Golf Hall of Fame (Els, Retief Goosen, Padraig Harrington, Langer, Vijay Singh), as well as 10 players who won major championships during their PGA TOUR careers.
In addition, there are two first-time winners making their Charles Schwab Cup Championship debut: Ángel Cabrera (James Hardie Pro Football Hall of Fame Invitational, Regions Tradition, Senior PGA Championship) and Steve Allan (The Galleri Classic, DICK’S Open, Boeing Classic) and Tommy Gainey (Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS).
